The design for the pouch was inspired by Pliny the Elder’s (an Ancient Roman author and natural philosopher) view on hedgehogs. The hedgehog is a Roman symbol of knowledge. Pliny the Elder said that hedgehogs would kick grapevines to make the grapes fall to the ground. They would then roll in the grapes to impale them on their spikes.

I hand printed these cream unbleached cotton pouches with a hand carved Hedgehog stamp on my etching press.  I finished the pouches with purple and cream coloured poly-satin ribbons, purple organza ribbon, iridescent cream, pearlesque purple and clear purple plastic beads.  The pouches are lined with dark purple taffeta.

They are great for storing all sorts of things, such as: Tarot Cards (the pouch will fit a deck of 70mm x120mm tarot cards), Gem Stones, Rune Stones, Dice, Jewellery etc..
